China: An advanced battery that powers an electric car for 1,000 kilometers on a single charge!

A company specialized in manufacturing electric cars in China has invented a new battery capable of running the car for a distance of more than 1,000 kilometers on a single charge.

Nio CEO William Li drove the ET7 electric car 1,044 kilometers (649 miles) during a 14-hour live broadcast, which saw the car travel from Zhejiang Province to Fujian Province last Sunday, at an average speed of 84 km/h. A separate test of the super battery reportedly saw it cover 1,145 kilometres.

Nio takes an unconventional approach to vehicle charging, preferring a battery swap system rather than plugging the car into an outlet and waiting for the battery to recharge.

The unique mechanism built into the car means that a dead battery can be replaced with a fully charged battery in less than three minutes, which is roughly equivalent to the time it takes to refill a petrol vehicle.

Customers can purchase a car without a battery, then pay a monthly subscription fee to use Nio batteries.

Purchasing the all-new battery will cost 298,000 yuan ($42,000) — roughly equivalent to the price of a Tesla Model 3, Nio President Shen Lihun said.
