In detail, the woman, who has been married for 12 years and is a mother of two children, turned to the chatbot developed by OpenAI (a technology company specializing in developing artificial intelligence technologies) and asked it to interpret the appearance of coffee grounds in an image of her husband's coffee cup, a modern update of an ancient art known as "cup reading."
And the result? ChatGPT allegedly told her that her husband was having an affair with a younger woman who was trying to destroy their family. Based on this "premonition," which she fully believed, she immediately initiated divorce proceedings.
The shocked husband appeared on the Greek morning show "To Proino" to recount the incident, saying, "She's often drawn to trends." He added, "One day, she made us Greek coffee and thought it would be fun to take pictures of the cups and ask ChatGPT for a reading."
The cup allegedly revealed a mysterious woman with a name beginning with "E," whom the husband had been "dreaming about" and was "destined" to start a relationship with. The wife's cup, however, painted a darker picture: the husband was already cheating on her, and the "other woman" was seeking to destroy their home.
The husband explained, "I laughed it off and thought it was nonsense, but she took it seriously. She asked me to leave the house, told our children we were getting a divorce, and then I received a call from a lawyer. Only then did I realize it wasn't just a passing fancy."
When the husband refused to agree to a mutually agreeable divorce, he received the official divorce papers just three days later.
The husband noted that this wasn't the first time his wife had fallen under the influence of supernatural interpretations. He continued, "Years ago, she visited an astrologer, and it took her a whole year to convince herself that what she had heard wasn't real."
For his part, the husband's lawyer emphasized that what is said by artificial intelligence robots has no legal value, asserting that his client is "innocent until proven guilty."
On the other hand, several practitioners of the art of "cup reading" have pointed out that the true interpretation isn't limited to the coffee grounds alone, but also includes analyzing the foam and the saucer.
