Pope Leo declared 15-year-old Carlo Acutis a saint on Sunday, Sept. 7, the first such ceremony of his tenure, canonizing the first Catholic saint of the millennial generation, elevating him to the same level as Mother Teresa and Francis of Assisi.

Carlo Acutis (1991–2006) was an Italian teenager known for his deep Catholic faith and extraordinary devotion to the Eucharist. He’s often called the "Cyber Apostle of the Eucharist" because he used his computer skills to create a website cataloging Eucharistic miracles from around the world.

Important Key Facts:

  • Early Life: Born in London to Italian parents, he grew up in Milan. From a young age, he showed unusual piety and a natural gift for technology.

  • Faith & Devotion: He attended daily Mass, prayed the Rosary, and had a special devotion to the Eucharist. He once said, “The Eucharist is my highway to heaven.”

  • Technology for Faith: Before his death, he completed an online exhibition of Eucharistic miracles, which has since been displayed worldwide in churches and schools.

  • Illness & Death: At 15, Carlo was diagnosed with acute leukemia. He accepted his suffering with remarkable faith, offering it up for the Church and the Pope. He died on October 12, 2006.

  • Beatification: In 2020, Pope Francis beatified Carlo Acutis in Assisi, where he is buried. He is often referred to as a modern role model for young Catholics and tech users.

Legacy:

Carlo is admired not only for his holiness but also for showing that technology, often criticized for distractions, can be used as a tool for good. He’s now on the path to becoming the first millennial saint.
