Since the beginning of time, how many feet have walked on Earth?🌎

It may be impossible at first glance to answer such a question, but some studies have already made estimates of the humans who have lived and are living on Earth until now.

A specialized online project called “Our World in Data” recently estimated the number of humans who have lived on Earth throughout history at no less than 117 billion people.

On the other hand, expert Peter Grunwald from the Dutch Center for Computer Science and Mathematics previously concluded that the estimated number of humans during the 162,000 years of human existence on Earth reached about 107 billion people, and a third study estimated the number at about 120 billion people.

The experts, who estimated the number of humans on Earth throughout history at about 117 billion people, did this work based on taking into account all the variables that allow for an accurate assessment of quantitative changes, and they began their work on the assumption that human existence began 190,000 years ago.

Experts believe that Earth's population change in the first few thousand years was slow due to the low life expectancy of our ancestors. Diseases, food shortages and animal attacks in early times led to a high death rate.

This changed after several hundred thousand years, and in the year 8000 BC, approximately at least 5 million people lived permanently on Earth, while the population of the Earth in the first century AD reached about 300 million people, and the number rose at the beginning of the 19th century to more than one billion people.

Experts say that our human race, Homo sapiens, although it is more than 200,000 years old, the number of humans remained small for thousands of years, and the eruption of the Toba volcano in Sumatra, present-day Indonesia, 74,000 years ago, according to a number of researchers, led to The number of people at that time decreased to a few thousand.

It is also worth noting that the Earth's population in the period between 1200 and 1650 practically did not increase due to the plague epidemic, which claimed the lives of millions of people and greatly slowed down the development of humanity.

The Earth's population began to rise at a rapid pace at the beginning of the twentieth century, that is, since 1900, and this was linked to the industrial revolution. The average lifespan of humans also increased rapidly thanks to major medical achievements and the development of medicines and vaccines. While the average lifespan in the Middle Ages was about 30 years, it increased. By the middle of the twentieth century to 70 years and more.

Based on these foundations, the latest study concluded that approximately 117 billion people have lived on Earth throughout human history. Considering that the number of humans on Earth as of March 2024 amounted to 9 billion people, this number represents about 7 percent of the total number of people who have ever lived on Earth.
