A doctor removes 30 stones from a man's kidney, Due to soft drinks!

In a rare medical case, a doctor removed more than 30 stones from a Brazilian man's kidney, in a procedure that sparked widespread interest in medical circles and on social media.

Stones are solid masses that form inside the kidney and must pass through the urethra to exit the body, causing excruciating pain.

The attending physician, Thales Franco de Andrade, a urologist, shared details of the case he treated for one of his patients on his social media accounts, pointing out the health risks associated with poor lifestyle and dietary habits, especially excessive consumption of soft drinks.

The Main Cause: Excessive Soda Consumption

According to Andrade, the primary reason for the large number of stones was excessive soda and soft drink consumption. The patient was drinking about 3 liters per day, which is far above any level considered medically safe.

The doctor noted that soft drinks should be consumed in moderation and should be treated as a "luxury" or rare treat, not as part of a daily diet.

Scientific Warnings Backed by Studies

According to a report published by Medical News Today, foods and drinks containing high fructose corn syrup, phosphoric acid, and caffeine are associated with an increased risk of kidney stone formation.

These warnings are based on a 2021 study that showed that consuming at least 160 milliliters of soda per day—the equivalent of less than a cup—increases the risk of stones, even when controlling for other factors.

Even diet soft drinks are not without risk, as they contain phosphoric acid, which may lead to changes in the substances excreted by the body through urine, contributing to the formation of stones.
