A California woman named Kay is living a nightmare after hundreds of unwanted packages from Amazon have been pouring into her San Jose home for over a year.
Hundreds of packages from Amazon have been pouring into her home for a year. An American woman pays the price for a Chinese seller's mistake! (Photos)
The reason is that a Chinese seller on the platform, Liusandedian, mistakenly or intentionally registered her home address as the return address for his products.
The packages, including faux leather car seat covers, piled up in her yard to chest height, leaving her unable to use her parking space.
It turns out the problem began when the Chinese seller marketed products that were not suitable for her specific car models, prompting hundreds of customers to return them. Instead of returning to China, she ended up at Cai's home, having never ordered any of the items.
Despite filing numerous complaints with Amazon, Cai only received promises to resolve the issue, but no action was taken.
In an attempt to defuse the situation, Amazon offered Cai a $100 gift card, but she was shocked when it asked her to dispose of the packages herself by either donating them or returning them to the sender.
International sellers on Amazon are required to provide a valid US return address, issue prepaid shipping labels, or issue refunds without requiring customers to return the items. But the Chinese seller circumvented these rules by using Cai's fake address.
After media coverage, Amazon was forced to remove the packages on Wednesday, confirming that the problem would not recur. The company issued a statement apologizing to Cai and confirming that it is working to permanently resolve the issue.
