Danube River drying up reveals sunken wars

The remains of dozens of Nazi German Black Sea Fleet ships dating back to the Second World War have appeared in the Danube River, due to a drop in its level due to a severe drought that hit Europe this summer.

The Nazi German Black Sea Fleet sank its ships as they retreated due to advancing Soviet forces in 1944.

It is estimated that there were hundreds of sunken ships in the Danube, dozens of which sank in this part of the waterway.

The hulls of sunken ships may contain unexploded ordnance, which makes the movement of ships dangerous.
