French prison mistakenly releases convicted inmate due to name similarity

French media reported on Friday that a French prison released an inmate by mistakebecause his name was identical to another inmate's except for one letter.

Instead of releasing an inmate who was scheduled to be deported to his country and remain under house arrest, prison guards in the western French city of Bordeaux released a man sentenced to 10 years in prison for robbery resulting in death, RMC radio and French news channel BFM TV reported, citing judicial sources.
