The Reason Behind A British Surgeon who Chose to Amputate His Own Legs!!!

ree

A British court sentenced a former vascular surgeon for the National Health Service (NHS) to two years and eight months in prison after he was convicted of insurance fraud and possessing extreme pornographic material.

Dr. Neil Hooper, 49, from Truro, Cornwall, had his legs amputated in 2019, claiming he had contracted sepsis. However, investigations later revealed that he had deliberately frozen his legs with dry ice to force doctors to amputate them.

According to the court, Hooper submitted fraudulent insurance claims totaling more than £466,000 and was found in possession of "highly damaging" videos of body mutilation for sexual purposes.

At Truro Crown Court, Hooper admitted two counts of fraud and three counts of possessing extreme pornography, not involving children, related to content he purchased from a website run by Marius Gustafsson, who was later convicted of leading an extreme body modification network.

Investigations revealed that Hooper had suffered from body dysmorphia since childhood and considered his feet "unwanted extras." After the amputations, he returned to work within less than six months, using prosthetic limbs, before being arrested in March 2023.

The Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (RCHT), where Hooper worked, confirmed that the charges were not related to his medical practice and that comprehensive reviews of the procedures he performed had not revealed any risk to patients.

However, a law firm specializing in medical negligence announced that it had received complaints from Hooper's former patients, expressing concerns about the medical procedures they underwent.

The Crown Prosecution Service indicated that it would seek to recover the money Hooper fraudulently obtained under the Proceeds of Crime Act 2022.
