"Flu Bomb" .. Is this home recipe really capable of overcoming colds in a matter of days?
A TikTok user shared a home recipe that she called the "flu bomb", claiming that it can help relieve cold and flu symptoms within "three days".
With the arrival of winter and the increased likelihood of catching a cold and flu, many people choose to resort to home remedies to deal with the symptoms. For those who want to get rid of annoying flu symptoms, the "flu bomb" may be the solution.
The idea of the recipe goes back to Barbara O'Neill, a famous Australian alternative medicine promoter, but it spread on social media after TikTok user @heyitsvara shared it.
O’Neill claims her recipe can help deal with most illnesses in as little as three days. However, it’s important to note that colds and flu typically last around a week in adults and older teens, and up to two weeks for younger children.
The recipe involves putting two cloves of garlic in a blender, along with a piece of ginger, turmeric, a little lemon juice, honey, hot water, and a pinch of cayenne pepper. Once all of these ingredients are blended, transfer them to small cups.
TikTok users have added some tweaks and tips to improve the recipe, with one suggesting: “You should always add black pepper because it activates the turmeric and helps your body absorb it.” Another said: “This is a great combination, I use it too. Just don’t add boiling water because it breaks down the healing properties of the honey.”
It is important to stress that although many support this recipe, it is not a substitute for official medical advice, as health experts say that flu cannot be treated with home remedies or over-the-counter medications. It is recommended to use paracetamol or ibuprofen to relieve pain and fever. If the child is experiencing discomfort, paracetamol or ibuprofen can be given, but you must ensure that the medicine is appropriate for the child's age. If you are unsure, it is best to consult a pharmacist or GP.
To avoid dehydration, you should drink plenty of water. To prevent the spread of flu, it is recommended to wash your hands frequently and cover your mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing with tissues, and dispose of them quickly after using them.
