The French Ministry of Education announced that a nine-year-old student had obtained her Baccalaureate certificate, making her the youngest person to receive this certificate. This confirms information published by France Info.
This student, who took the exam in Paris as an independent candidate in mathematics, physics, and chemistry, received the certificate with make-up marks, meaning no distinction.
The ministry explained to Agence France-Presse that "the previous youngest student under the age of twelve to receive the Baccalaureate certificate was in 1989," when she was eleven years old.
The ministry did not provide further details about this unusual student, who earned a diploma typically awarded to French students at the age of 17 or 18, at the end of high school.
The training organization Isoset stated in a statement that it supported this student using a methodology developed in collaboration with Hugo Spey, a former baccalaureate graduate who earned his diploma at the age of 12 in 2012.
