The medical and surgical team of the Saudi Conjoined Twins Separation Program announced the completion of the operation to separate the Egyptian parasitic twins, "Mohammed Abdel Rahman Jumaa," in record time.

The Egyptian parasitic twins, "Mohammed Abdel Rahman Jumaa," aged 7 months and 28 days, were separated at King Abdullah Specialist Children's Hospital in King Abdulaziz Medical City of the Ministry of the National Guard in Riyadh.

Dr. Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al-Rabeeah, Advisor to the Royal Court, Supervisor General of the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center, and Head of the Medical and Surgical Team of the Saudi Conjoined Twins Program, explained that the Egyptian parasitic twins, Mohammed Abdel Rahman Jumaa, arrived in the Kingdom last March.

He added that after the twins were admitted to King Abdullah Specialist Children's Hospital, the medical team conducted the necessary medical examinations and discovered that the parasitic twin was conjoined with the twin Mohammed at the back, lower in the chest, abdomen, and pelvis.

The scheduled operation was to take approximately 11 hours, but the team was able to complete it in less time after successfully completing the complex fourth stage, which included separating the spinal cord.

The fifth stage, which involves skin reconstruction, also began immediately, paving the way for recovery and monitoring Mohammed's vital signs.

Twenty-six consultants, specialists, nursing staff, and technicians from the specialties of anesthesia, neurosurgery, pediatric surgery, plastic surgery, and other support specialties participated in the operation.

Dr. Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al-Rabeeah indicated that this is a delicate operation with a success rate exceeding 70%.

He stated that this is the 63rd operation in the Saudi Conjoined Twins Program's history, which has studied 149 cases from 27 countries since 1990.

He pointed out that the program will continue to develop its expertise and treatment protocols and transfer this knowledge to medical personnel at home and abroad, thus contributing to expanding its humanitarian impact and enhancing the Kingdom's position as a global center of medical excellence in the field of conjoined twins and other vital fields.
